It started with dancers wanting to have their feet to be the size of lotus flower. Later, feet binding became a sign of social distinction and the richer class women joined. The girls started to bind their feet from age two to eight years old.
This practice was officially banned in year 1911 in China. During the migration of the Chinese nationality to Malaysia, those bound feet women needed the bound feet shoes in Malaysia. This is where the trade of making bound feet shoes by hand started in Malaysia. This is a generation hand down business and left very few makers in Malaysia.
